We are nearing the close of this summer’s transfer window, but Arsenal are not even close to signing a striker amid all the rumors and transfer talks. The Gunners are lacking a true goal scorer who can win them tough games for quite some time, but their transfer activities/policies are not capable of signing a quality forward in the recent years. And this summer is also not an exception.
There are no shortages for rumors or player contacts this summer, but there are no SOLID bids or influential approaches made by Arsene Wenger. Here is a list of TOP 4 forwards who are linked with a move to the Emirates this summer; only LINKED:
4 Strikers Arsenal Failed To Sign
#1 Alexandre Lacazette
The Olympique Lyon striker is the top scorer in Ligue 1 last season, scoring 27 goals in his 33 appearances. The striker was quoted by Premier League clubs including Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal. Since Wenger is very familiar with his fellow countrymen, strong links glued a transfer to the Emirates amid interest from other clubs.
But, the player signed a surprise new contract with his club which will keep him until 2019. The reason for Wenger rejecting the deal is not known for sure, but the keen intention of Lyon to keep hold of their player is said to be the main reason.
#2 Karim Benzema
Another French striker and a Wenger favorite; to be honest, Wenger missed the Golden chance to sign the real Madrid star when he was given the opportunity. When Rafael Benitez took over the reins at Real Madrid, Benzema was reported to be leaving the Spanish capital. The player even tweeted that he is looking for new experience, but Arsene Wenger thought the demanded fee for the player by Real Madrid is ‘too high’. Thus, he dropped his interest.
And then the unexpected happened when Rafa announced Benzema as an integral part of his real squad, signaling the player to commit his future to the Los Blancos and he did commit himself by calling those who said he is ready for a transfer as ‘clowns’.
#3 Edinson Cavani
Out of the three players, Cavani is the only player we cannot complain on Wenger for missing out. The Uruguayan is not really ready to leave Paris Saint-Germain; the only problem he got in Paris is Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Cavani is clearly unhappy to play a second fiddle behind the Swedish, but the club managed to clear the bushes out and gave him an equal role alongside the former Barcelona and AC Milan star.
Still Arsenal has a chance to sign the player but for that they have to SPLASH; spending won’t be enough.
#4 Gonzalo Higuain
One of the proven goal scorers in the game who is entering his peak years of his career; the Napoli front man scored 29 goals for his side in all competitions last season and the Gunners have been linked with a move for Higuain ever since he left Real Madrid to join Napoli in 2013.
But still they are only ‘linked with a move’, nothing is happening beyond that. As per reports, Wenger is ready to spend on to sign him in the deadline day, but the hurdle comes in the form of Napoli owner who want at least £60m for his star forward. The deal may take more than that to happen considering the deadline, the selling clubs will try to demand as much as they can since they know that the buyers should be in a hurry to complete a deal and will agree to bigger fee.
