This is one of the most controversial debates of this generation. The most trending topic on social network. Now one of the greatest managers in football history, ex-manager of Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson has had his say on the topic. And unsurprisingly he has opted for his favorite student Cristiano Ronaldo.
Who Is Better Cristiano Ronaldo Or Lionel Messi?
The legendary former Manchester United boss signed the Portuguese superstar from Sporting Clube de Portugal and bring him to Old Trafford as a youngster. Fergi has been an influential figure for Ronaldo, nurtured him through his early career and help him to settle down in Manchester in his early days. He was given the number 7 shirt by Alex Ferguson. In 2009, he made his big-money move to Real Madrid and at that time Alex Ferguson said:
“I have nothing but praise for the boy. He is easily the best player in the world. His contribution as a goal threat is unbelievable. His stats are incredible. Strikes at goal, attempts on goal, raids into the penalty box, headers. It is all there. Absolutely astounding.”
Now after almost 6 years later, he was asked by John Parrott on the BBC at the World Snooker Championships about the Cristiano-Messi topic. He told:
“People say, who the best player in the world is? Plenty of people say Messi, and you can’t dispute that opinion. But Ronaldo could play for Millwall, Queens Park Rangers, Doncaster Rovers or anyone, and score a hat-trick in a game. I’m not sure Messi could do that.”
He also added that:
“Ronaldo has got two feet, quick, good in the air, brave – Messi is brave of course, I think Messi is a Barcelona player.”
Fergie also revealed that:
“Ronaldo is the biggest improvement I ever had at Manchester United really because he came as a young skinny kid at 17. And yes, he had stuff such as diving which people used to criticize him but, once he got out on the training field, he was fantastic. The most important thing for a great player is decision-making and that improved over Ronaldo’s time at old Trafford. Him and Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, you have to say, are the best three players I ever had. Bryan Robson and Roy Keane and Eric Cantona were great players, too, but not [at their level].”
He acknowledges Messi’s talent, praises him. But he says Ronaldo has a better all-round game.
Everybody has entitled to their own opinion. This is a just a personal opinion from Sir Alex Ferguson. Both players are different but true genius, living legends. They have shown consistency and high standard in their performances for a long time. Comparison is always a controversial and tricky thing.
