Ferguson Was Wrong To Doubt Hazard’s Value

The legendary Manchester United Manager, Sir Alex Ferguson was wrong to doubt Hazard’s value. He is great with scouting talent but its look like he has done a big mistake to judge Hazard’s value & talent. In 2012, Sir Alex had great chance to sign Eden Hazard from Lille, but he didn’t go for it.

Eden hazard started his carrier with Lille from 2007 & promoted to senior team for permanently in 2008. In his 1st year, he performed brilliantly & won the National Union of Professional Footballers (UNFP) Young Player of the Year. In the next season, he won the award again.

The young kid showed great promise for the future, influential in the field, pacey, talented & good dribbler. In the following season, he was available on transfer market, all the big guns Europe showed interested in him, but Lille chairman Michel Seydoux declared his intention that they are not going to sell hazard. The legendary Zinedine Zidane praised the 19 year old Eden Hazard in 2010, he said:

“Eden is technically gifted and very fast. He will be a major star in the future. I would take him to Real Madrid with my eyes closed.”

He started the 2010-11 season in a same manner & won the UNFP Ligue 1 Player of the Year, become the youngest player ever to won this award. In previous season he lost out that award to one of his teammate. He won double with his club Lille in 2010-11. After the impressive 2011-12, he won the Ligue 1 Player of the Year award again.

In 2012 season, he become one of the big name in transfer market. Chelsea & Manchester United were leading the race that time. But Sir Alex Ferguson believed that Hazard is overpriced. In his interview he said:

“There is a borderline in terms of what you would think is a good signing for United. I see some values on players, like Hazard for instance. To me it was a lot of money. He’s a good player, but £34m?What we’re finding anyway, the climate for buying these top players – not just the transfer fees, the salaries, agents’ fees – is just getting ridiculous now.”

Sir Alex kept his faith on the scout & scouting system of United & they go for Shinji Kagawa in the same year. He said:

“It’s all about what you think is value for a player. I am not envious of those deals at all. We placed a value on Hazard which was well below what they were talking about. So if it doesn’t work, well we’re not worried about that. We think we’ve got good value in Shinji Kagawa.”

Ferguson thought Hazard was overpriced at that time, but he proved to be priceless for Chelsea. He shines for Chelsea from his first year, on the other hand Shinji’s didn’t fulfill his expectation in Manchester United, returned to Dortmund in 2014. With the arrival of José Mourinho, Eden hazard has improved so much. He was the best player of Chelsea in last season, also won the PFA Young Player of the Year. This year, he is enjoying his best season of his carrier, on his way to won the EPL & also the PFA player of the year.

Wrap Up

At this point he is third best player in the world after Cristiano and Messi, the best in the EPL. He proved all his critics wrong, especially Sir Alex Ferguson. Now they have signed Ángel Di María with an amount almost double of the transfer value of Hazard. All we can say, Manchester missed out on a fantastic player.
