Bayer Leverkusen fullback Wendell Nascimento Borges, popularly known as ‘Wendell’ is flattered by the interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid and revealed that he would even walk his way ti join the Spanish capital side. Real Madrid are reportedly asked Leverkusen about the situation of the Brazilian as they are long due of a deputy left back.

Wendell who has been impressive for Bayern 04 this season is considered as one of the brightest young fullbacks in the world, particularly one of the best possible replacements available for Real Madrid star Marcelo. Real Madrid are looking for a backup left back who can play while Marcelo is unavailable or to give some more rest to the Brazilian international.

The Spanish giants did not sign any specialist Left backs in the last two transfer windows as then manager Rafa Benitez thought only Alvaro Arbeloa and Danilo are enough to backup Marcelo. But injuries to both of Real Madrid’s fullbacks Carvajal and Marcelo coupled with Arbeloa’s worst form has left Real Madrid longing for a specialist fullback. Madrid sold Portugal international Fabio Coentrao but did not sign any replacements.

It is reported that manager Zinedine Zidane is impressed by young Brazilian Wendell’s performances for Bayer Leverkusen this season and has contacted the German club to sign the player. Real Madrid’s right-back Daniel Carvajal is also a former Bayer Leverkusen player who is vital for Real Madrid since his return to the Spanish capital. Carvajal’s success with Real Madrid further motivates Wendell who aims to follow the footprints of Roberto Carlos and Marcelo at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Any player in the world, regardless of their nationality, dreams about playing for Real Madrid. Marcelo is an idol and a reference; Roberto Carlos, a legend – an icon; it would be a wonderful challenge to continue the tradition of Brazilian players at such a historic club.”

“An honor to be Marcelo’s deputy – he’s been the best left-back in the world for the past five years,” explained Wendell Nascimento Borges.

According to reports from Germany, French champions Paris Saint-Germain tried to sign the Brazilian in the winter transfer window for a fee around 20m Euros which the German side rejected. The player’s agent confirmed that several European top clubs are after his client who did not comment anything special about Real Madrid’s interest. The price tag on the player is expected to be around 35m Euros and Real Madrid should fight a battle with some of the other European powerhouses to sign the player if the reports are to be believed.
