Juventus vs Monaco Match Preview

Monaco FC surprises all and get past the Arsenal challenge, whereas Juventus literally thrashed Dortmund. Monaco has struggled on Italian soil in the past and Juventus is unbeaten in their home, which clearly suggests The Zebras will be on front foot in this 1st leg. Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim sees themselves as underdog in this fixture and he said:

Juventus are among the biggest sides around. They are favorites for our tie. We’re lucky to play the second leg at home. We’ll try to make the most of this quarter-final. They have top-quality players who have plenty of unity and togetherness.

Current Form of Juventus

Juventus is having a dream run in Seria A, manages 70 points in 30matches and 12point ahead of 2nd placed in the point table, Lazio. But despite of their fantastic form, they lost the last match in seria A against Parma. This is only defeat in their last 10 fixtures and they are still unbeaten in their home. They also enjoyed a good run in Champions league.  They are unbeaten in last five matches in UCL, manages 4 wins and 1draw.

But the main problem is they will miss their midfield starlet Paul Pogba due to hamstring and another key midfield Claudio Marchisio is doubtful due to knee injury. Andrea Pirlo most probably will return from the calf injury. Arturo Vidal was superb against Dortmund, is having his best form in this season, will play a vital role in this fixture. He said:

We were in the dressing room preparing for training when they told us we’d drawn Monaco. It will be a fantastic tie, very important. Every team is difficult to face; we’re talking about the best eight in Europe. I think it will be 50-50, and we’ll just remain focused and try to qualify. I think our victory in Dortmund was a real boost for us. We played a great game and we’re all happy after that performance.

The combination and pace of Tevez and Morata in the front will be the key in this fixture. Losing two important midfielders are already a huge blow for Allegri, but their performance in Dortmund will give them enough confidences.

Current Form of Monaco

Monaco started the Ligue 1 in poor manner, but they improved their performance in the second phase. They are unbeaten in last 8 fixture in Ligue 1 and lost only one match out of 15matches the played this year. They are currently in third position in the league and they will be in top 3 if they can keep their current form to the end. They have dream run in this UCL, topped the group and beat Arsenal on away goal rule.

Defense is their main strength and they had a best defensive record in the group stage of this year UCL, conceding 1 goal in six matches and overall conceded 4 goals in their all 8 matches. Stopping goal is not their main problem, but scoring goal is. They have scored only 4goals in 6matches in group stages, but their performances against Arsenal in Emirates stadium is boaster for them as they are going for the away fixture.

Monaco midfielder Joao Moutinho said:

Juventus have a great team with formidable players – a compact group who are very organized. We say that they are the favorites, but then Arsenal were also favorites. For us it will not be easy, but we will give 200 per cent in order to achieve our goal. We want to play the semi-finals.

He further added:

After the semi-finals, we want the final. We are young and ambitious. We will do whatever it takes to win. It is an important opportunity we must exploit. How? By remaining focused for 180 minutes. Every distraction is likely to be lethal against Juve.
