Kerala Blasters Transfer News: The Franchise Stops Chasing Riise

The former Norwegian international footballer and 34 year old Riise had signed a pre-contract with Kerala. The contract was about the player to be Kerala Blaster’s marquee player for upcoming Indian Super league 2nd edition. But the fullback who once played for top clubs like Liverpool and Roma developed a will to join Delhi Dynamos and showed his apathy for the contract. So, the Kerala franchise now announces their quitting.

Kerala Blasters Signed Carlos Marchena As Their Marquee Player

Kerala Blasters also signed Carlos Marchena as their marquee player this season when they found Riise’s disinterest as the closing of the transfer window is in a very short time. Marchena was the former center back of Spain. He spent most of his club career in La Liga with Valencia. He was also part of the Spanish campaigns of 2006 and 2010 world cup and 2008 UEFA Euro Cup. Among the tournaments he won 2008 Euro and 2010 FIFA world cup with Spain. He also holds the record of being the player to be undefeated for 50 consecutive matches with the national team and he surpassed none other than Brazilian legend Garrincha.

So, it does not seem to be a bad deal for Kerala as they can replace Riise with Marchena. Virean D’Silva, general manager of Kerala Blasters said,

”We have already announced Carlos Marchena as our marquee player. That is enough indication. I think this is a non-discussion point. We are going ahead with our team and selection. Riise is not joining us.”

Wrap up

The ISL is almost here and every team of the tournament is preparing for the best. Kerala ended their campaign as the runners last year. This year they set their eyes on the champion trophy. So they tried to make sure that by making a well balanced team and while Riise do not want the club they go for a similar option and they successfully achieved that.
