Manchester United destroyed Manchester City 4-2 at Old Trafford on 12th April, at yesterday’s Manchester derby. Louis van Gaal is pleased with the performance and has shared his gesture over the team’s chances.
Louis Van Gaal: post Manchester Derby Interview
After yesterday’s win United have won the last five EPL encounters, which included teams like Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester City. Now, sitting in the third position and four points ahead of Manchester City, United is keenly looking to finish in the top three, to avoid the play-offs at Champions League. Louis van Gall emphasised on the same matter while asked about the next target of United’s.
“We are now four points ahead of City for third place and that is very important.”
As we said earlier, Van Gall spot on reaching on his target, if we see, the Manchester United we are looking at right now, has a team to offer.
They do not depend on any particular striker like Persie or Rooney any more. The whole team including Young, Fellaini, Blind, Herrera, Mata, Carrick, and Di Maria; all are performing to drag United back to its old glory.
On the derby win Van Gaal also mentioned the fans support and also seemed focused on the next target. He said
“I am very proud and I’m very happy for the fans. It means a lot for the fans – all the players and staff wanted to give a victory to the fans. If anybody deserves it, it is the fans this season. The goal we set at the start of the season was to finish in the top four. I’ll be very pleased when we reach that goal.”
He kept on regarding the fans mentioning the support they have been supplying at hard times. Louis van Gaal said
“I am very pleased for the fans of course, because they have supported us when the results were not so good and now they are very good. I’m very happy for the fans that they can walk through the streets without being embarrassed! They can go on the streets, hat up, and they can say now ‘we are, this year, the better team’ because goal difference is in our favour.”
About the wake up after getting behind from Aguero’s goal Louis van Gaal praised his team a lot. The Manchester United manager delivered
“We have showed the strength of character often,” he said, “I have more than once given compliments to my players about that because, in all the matches, we are going until the end with a great spirit and we have shown that against City.”
On the late step out of Carrick’s struggling with a tight calf and United’s playing with ten men, for last ten minutes having no substitutions available has brought a bit embarrassment to the Dutchman though.
“At the end, Michael Carrick needed to be changed but I could not substitute him. He was very wise to step out of the game with my permission. I hope he is not injured.”
The United boss also said
“Of course, the result is fantastic, 4-1, but then I had to bring Carrick off, it was a little bit stupid of me. I wanted to give all of my players’ minutes because they have been working so hard. Wayne had to play as a holding midfielder, and it was difficult.”
The man, who had trusted the Dutch manager more than anybody else, was the vice-chairman of Manchester United, one Mr. Ed Woodward. Louis quoted
“I said to Ed Woodward that it shall not be easy. Now we are in the first four, but we have six games still to play. It is not done yet but we are on our way.”
