Manchester United and Chelsea chase Icardi

The Premier League giants have identified Mauro Icardi as their primary striker for next season and are reportedly in pursuit to sign the Argentine forward. The former Barcelona youth player has been in good form for Internazionale this season, scoring 11 goals in 23 appearances so far.

The Premier League Champions Chelsea already chased the player last summer, but nothing materialised and Icardi stayed put. Manchester United are searching for a forward ever since Robin van Persie left the club and signed Anthony Martial in the summer. But the things have not changed much for the Old Trafford side as club captain Wayne Rooney lost his touch which leads them to chase after strikers once again.

Jose Mourinho who showed interest on Icardi when he was at Chelsea is reportedly the next manager to take over Manchester United and it is expected that he will resume his chase for the Argentine as soon as he joins United. Chelsea are looking for a replacement for injury-prone Radamel Falcao who will leave the club at the end of the season and the Londoners did not trust Loic Remy who is also expected to leave the club.

Chelsea forward Diego Costa is also not 100% settled with life at London and may seek a move to his former club Atletico Madrid in the summer and the Spanish side is also keen for a reunion. Mauro Icardi can fulfill the needs of both the teams but the player has no idea of leaving the Italian side if they qualify for the Champions League this season.

“Now we must aim for third place to reach our objective and return to playing in Europe.”

“I want to stay here and win with this jersey. I am the captain and I want to do great things with Inter,” told Icardi before the important game against Serie A defending champions Juventus.

Chelsea’s chances of making it to the Champions League next season is very slim and Manchester United are so inconsistent that they may slip from the Top 4 in the last minutes. From Icardi’s words, it is pretty clear that the player wants Champions League football and the Premier League sides will find it difficult to lure the player if they fail to progress.
