Manchester United vs. Aston Villa match review and highlights 1st half:

As it was expected, from the very first minute United were on the neck of the opponent. The first half started with a disappointment for them, when Rooney was dragged down by Aston defender inside the penalty box, and referee refused to give a penalty. Then onwards it was only United down both the flanks creating hiccups in Aston Villa defence. On the 9th minute of the game, Mata had launched a well placed push which eventually was saved by the Aston goalkeeper Guzan.

Later as the attacks from Mata and Yong and blind were coming up every second, a chance came up in between when the United Argentine defender Rojo launched a long shot which was just tipped away by the Villa keeper. Crosses keep on threatening the visitors defence from in the hope of Fellaini to get a header. Thus with the total dominating game play Manchester finally broke the dead lock at 43rd minute when Blind’s pass was converted with Herrera’s brilliant placement. The first half was although ruled and dominated by United, and as a result neither Benteke nor Agbonlahor could have a shot at United goal! With five corners in the first half, United also kept the fear of set piece conversion on!

Manchester United vs. Aston Villa match review and highlights 2nd half:

Aston Villa replaces Huton in the half time and brings in Bacuna. Young still working the Villa defence but in the second half Villa mid-field starts to response. Nzongbia went out and Bekar came in at 60th mintute of the game and Villa slowly starts trying to get into United penetrative zone. Now, another surprise came when Louise van Gaal brought in Di Maria, the player he was disappointed on last match, replacing the most efficient man today, Ashley Young.

Still Aston midfield keeps on working on creating chances and gets a lovely reward when Weinneman were brought down by Rojo near United penalty box. Though they missed the chance as Benteke failed to have a contact with the ball. Then at 7th minute Joe Cole came in replacing Weinneman and started delivering the long balls along with the through balls to Agbonlahor and Benteke. Fellaini was also substituted by Falcao by Van Gaal making United an all out striking force. The result was inevitable and came in superbly, when Rooney was assisted by Di Maria from the left flank and the captain of Devils finished it with utmost brilliance finding the top corner on a turn and shoot making the scoreboard a bit more relieving with 2-0.

But, not letting that to stay longer, only 94 seconds after Rooney’s 12th goal of the season Joe Cole delivered a corner to United box and Benteke takes out the cake as De Gea missed a simple push from the Villa striker making the incident worst for the Manchester United keeper in the whole season. The drama did not make a curtain-drop then also, as on 86th minute of the game Di Maria almost outplayed the whole Villa defence through a solo run from a counter-attack. But the score board remained 2-1 as the chance was not destined till then, and then on the injury time, Rooney chased a ball from a drop ball just to let Mata assist Herrera with his second net at the 91st minute of the game, putting the lights off for Villa with a 3-1 scoreboard.

Wrap Up:

The 3-1 win will not only make Manchester United stick on to the fourth position and a close margin with Arsenal (Arsenal won against Liverpool 4-1 today) but also the score will boost United on their next Derby encounter against Manchester City at home.
