The Guwahati-based club is entering the second season of ISL with higher intentions than the inaugural season in which they finished as reverse toppers. The club represents the 8 states of India on the NorthEast side which includes the likes of Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura and Mizoram. Cesar Farias is the new manager who takes over the former manager Ricki Herbert who finished in the last place in 2014. How will NorthEast united will line up and perform this season? A short look:

NorthEast United Team List for Indian Super League (ISL) 2015

NEUFC are in high spirits to start the new season as they are eager to make a mark in the ISL as a team. Last season was a disaster for them and the lack of goals from their forwards caused their group stage run. All the eight forwards of NEUFC combined to score a total of just 6 goals throughout the season, the major drawback that dumped NEUFC’s chances. Though they did not lose as many matches as Pune and Mumbai (who both lost 6 games), NEUFC’s inability to win games (just 3 wins out of 14 games) caused them dearly.

Considering the faults of last season, new manager Farias has brought in quality to his attacking unit especially FOREIGN talents which will boost their chances for sure.

New Players in NorthEast United

NEUFC has brought in some excellent players who can help the team to post a strong threat against any team. Simao Sabrosa has been their best piece of business in the window. The former Portuguese international had extremely successful spells with Benfica and Atletico Madrid at his pomp and had even captained Portugal in major tournaments. The left-winger excelled in his position at Atletico Madrid and had played a major part to help Atleti become a major force in Spain again.

They also brought in Indian talents Seityasen Singh, Zohmingliana Ralte, Marlangki Suting, Raju Yumnam, Reagan Singh, and Siam Hanghal Lalthuammawia Ralte. Also, another new signing – Senegal international Diomansy Kamara is expected to play a vital role for the ISL1 strugglers.

NorthEast United Performance in ISL 2014

The NorthEast side were not the poor performers of last season as they were defensively dominant. The only problem they had last season was their unimpressive front line and the stats are pinpointing the weakness.

NEUFC Preview of ISL2: How They Will Perform In ISL2?

Looking at the improvements NEUFC made, the team is with high hopes without doubts. Last season’s top goalscorer Sergio Contreras Pardo (Koke)was released by the club earlier this season, but the new addition bring more quality and youth to the squad.

Diomansy Kamara, the Senegal international has been impressive Turkish side Eskişehirspor between 2011 and 2014, scoring 28 goals in 95 appearances for the club. He also had spells with English Premier League sides Portsmouth, Fulham, and West Bromwich Albion in his earlier years. Nicolas Velez, Francis Dadzie and Holicharan add fresh legs to the attacking unit.
Argentine Nicolas Velez is in fine form who scored 28 goals for his side Warriors in the S-League between 2014-15. The River Plate product can impress NEUFC for an impressive season if continues his goal scoring form.

Farias can rely on his midfield option as he has last season midfield hero Kondwani Mtonga to form a formidable midfield. Marquee player Simao Sabrosa can also be utilized on the wings to his maximum potential, but can he deliver his heroics once again is not a surety since he has past his prime and is in the last years of his career.

And in the defense department, we can say NEUFC are equal to even the title winners. They have the same set up of last season who conceded 13 goals in 14 games. Have nothing to complain if a team concedes just below one goal per game and when the team who finished the LAST in the table does that, you should not complain.

NEUFC Predicted Line Up for ISL2

Predicted Formation:  4-4-2

Though the team bought foreign talents to make the squad stronger, the teams main strength is the INDIAN talents like Alen Deory, Sanju Parden and Holicharan Narzary who has to perform if NEUFC want to have a strong campaign this time.
