Pep Guardiola will try to lure defender Marcelo Vieira from Real Madrid once he took over the job at Etihad, according to The Guardian.
Pep Guardiola is the nest manager to take over Manchester City and the club have very high hopes on the Spaniard who has achieved big things at Barcelona and Bayern Munich. The former Barcelona man has signed a deal to be the next Manchester City manager, replacing Manuel Pellegrini from the hot seat in the summer.
City already have started to plan their transfer to ease the workload on their new manager, scouting top talents and players all over Europe. Top players including Paul Pogba, Antoine Griezmann, Toni Kroos are linked with the club and the latest one to add to the list is Real Madrid left back Marcelo.
The Brazilian is the vice-captain for Real Madrid whose status with the Blancos is nothing less than club Captain Sergio Ramos. Additionally, the Brazilian wingback is a fan favorite at the Santiago Bernabeu. Luring him from the Spanish capital will be an impossible task considering the player’s status at the club and his LOYALTY towards Real Madrid.
Marcelo is one of the most loyal players in the club currently, making the job very hard for the English side who hope they can convince the player. City used money as their best option in the past, but can they outsmart Real Madrid who are the richest club in the world is a big question. Also, the Brazilian just extended his contract with Real Madrid in the last summer which allow Real Madrid to have the player until 2020.
Marcelo’s release clause is around 120 million Euros which is said to be the minimum amount for the player if anyone wants him. Marcelo joined Real Madrid in 2007 from Fluminense as an 18-year-old teenager and now he is one of the best ever fullbacks to play for Real Madrid. Marcelo is just years away from being considered as a Legend of the club who is getting compared with fellow Brazilian and Real Madrid Legend Roberto Carlos.
Pep Guardiola will definitely sign world class players for his new team, but signing a player of Marcelo’s status is looking impossible. Also, the rivalry he has with Real Madrid as a Barcelona man may play a role in complicating the transfer.
