In the post-match press-conference Atletico De Kolkata manager Antonio Lopez Habas looked very frustrated and expressed his disappointment on poor referring. In his short interview Habas came up with a outburst against the match officials. Habas was reported quoting

“He showed seven (six) yellow and one red card which unsettled our rhythm. It was very frustrating. Our opponent played well against us but we defended well and I am happy for having collected one point in the away match.”

Zico at post match interview: FC Goa vs Atletico De Kolkata

On the other hand FC Goa manager Brazilian legend Zico; “the white Pele”, had emphasised and focused on how his boys created truck full of chances but could not milk the best out of the scene. Zico’s disappointment over the score-line was summed up by his delivery at the conference. Zico replied to the press saying

“They controlled the proceeding but played too many wrong passes than the last match which saw us not finding more goals. We created lot of goal scoring chances and finally found the equaliser in the 82nd minute (81st) to earn us a point. We had played four times last season against the Kolkata team in the ISL and we have lost once and drawn three times and today we were looking to win in front of our fans but unfortunately we could not get the victory in spite of dominating the game.”

Brief sum up of the 90 minute match

FC Goa had gone behind after being down by a first half goal by Atletico De Kolkata midfielder Arata Izumi. The goal eventually came off all on a sudden. The match was always in hand of FC Goa. As said earlier in the match preview the home team kept on pressing the opponent to the penalty box and created a bucket full of chances. But none of the half-chances or the sitters was converted.

In the second half, Baljit Sahni recived a yellow card and then went on to get into the trap of Arnolin. After a short argument, Shani was found to be head-butting the FC Goa player. As a result Shani had to leave his team one man down in the field. In the 81st minute of the game, Almeida equalized for the home team. The FC Goa squad was bulldozing out the Atletico mid-field; but with a strong defence, Atletico De Kolkata ended the match a draw.

FC Goa Performance in ISL Season 1

Despite of a disappointing start FC Goa started to get their rhythm as the season progressed with Zico’s methods working wonders. He nourished young Indian players and used them as team’s asset. After a slow start to the campaign they finished the league at second place by playing attractive brand of football under Zico. Players like Romeo Fernandez, Narayan Das, Mandar Rao were finds of the season. They finished the league stage with 22 points recording 6 wins , 4draws and 4 defeats .They were the side to fear about towards the end scoring 21 times and allowing 12 . After a heartbreaking shoot-out exit from last season’s competition only the trophy could make Zico happy. He has recruited various proven stars from Brazil and other countries. Zico has faith in his Indian core which worked wonders last time around. He has kept almost everybody from last year’s domestic players and added some more players from domestic circle. Although he could miss players like Santos and Slepicka who held the key last season but he has added various ample qualities in his squad. He has added dynamic pairs Jofre and Leo Moura. Jofre helped Atletico to clinch the title last time around and add immense quality to the side. He has got bench strength in every position and domestic players are key to that.

FC Goa had a pre-season in Dubai against quality sides. They lost only one, drew and won two . Certainly they had a better pre-season this time around to go for the title straight away. Forward Reinaldo scored three times and is expected to lead the line for them.
